Wall of Fame: Sarah Barber, Pure People

Sarah Barber runs Pure People - offering one-to-one Nutritional Therapy consultations and other nutritional services, and has an interest in treating pregnant ladies, babies and children.

Lives? I live with my husband Sacha and our son Harley in Hove, near Poet’s Corner.

Age? I’m 34, husband Sacha is 39 and works in IT in London. This means, by definition, I call him a geek but he’s okay with this as really loves what he does.

Kids? We have a little boy called Harley who’s 19 months and so far is a real stereotypical ‘boy’. Currently he LOVES diggers, tractors, trains, planes – generally anything with big wheels that’s noisy!

Brighton born & bred? I was born in Kent but have been living in Brighton for last past 15 years. Sacha my husband is Brighton born and bred, though he spent most of his childhood in Australia in North Queensland (Great Barrier Reef country!)

What’s the best thing about being a parent in the city? I love that Brighton is into holistic health and open to alternative ways of living. Brighton is such a great size when it comes to being a parent in the city. Big enough that there’s loads to do but small enough that you can easily meet up with your friends.

Occupation? Nutritional Therapist (aka Nutritionist to most people). I have a personal interest in treating babies, children and conducting family diet reviews as well as working with women who are pregnant or pre-conceptually.

What are your interests? I love anything connected to healthy living and complementary therapies. Food is a REAL passion – eating it, cooking it, thinking about it, buying it – you name it! Hanging out with friends, connecting and sharing ideas, fostering some kind of community is definitely important to me too. I also love to catch a film and go out for dinner with my man when the rare opportunity presents itself!

What’s your favourite Brighton memory (with or without child)? Oooh, that’s a difficult one! I’ll have to come back to you on that one. There was a great vibe during the New Year millennium celebrations. The day I got my A’level results and we all went out to celebrate was a great memory too!

Favourite place in Brighton and vicinity? Kid-related – Mile Oak Farm is a great place to take little ones as there’s lots of great animals, a café, the opportunity to go on long walks and it’s free! The pavilion is beautiful – it always has a magical feel to it somehow and of course you can’t forget the beach.
