Sarah Harvey, Brighton & Hove Photography

Lives? Hove, Wish Park Area
Kids. James, 8; Louise 4 going on 14 if you know what I mean.
Partner? Married to Photographer, Dean.
Brighton born & bred? No, originally from Broxbourne in Herts but have lived in Hove for over 15 years. We first moved because Dean was offered a new job and relocated to Haywards Heath. Did the weekend thing for a while and fell in love with Brighton. So decided to jack in my job and take the plunge and move down. Never looked back. I often wonder what would have happened if Dean had relocated to Birmingham !?!
What’s the best thing about being a parent in the city? Just that everything is within reach and there is so much to do with the kids. Once you have kids you see a whole new side of the city - parks, cafes and beaches that I didn’t know existed. There’s lots to do for free which is great!
Occupation? I work part-time for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice in the fundraising team. I’m currently working on the The Snowman’s Spectacular Fundraising Ball www.thesnowmanspectacular.org.uk
The other half of the week I work with Dean on Brighton Hove Photography. We formed the business last year. It all started following a rather expensive experience we had with Venture some years ago. We booked a family photoshoot for my dad’s BIrthday and ended up spending a small fortune. Dean’s a talented photographer and I have editing experience so we decided that we could offer the same great photos at a fraction of the cost and that’s how Brighton Hove Photography started. We operate from home and have converted our loft into a studio. Our shoots are fun and relaxed and I think the family home environment really helps put people at ease. We are both really enjoying it and working together is fun.
What are your interests? I read and read and read! Anything from modern literature to a tacky holiday romance. I’m a member of a gym but don’t go as often as I should - never seems a priority. Love spending time with friends. I’ve met some fab mums since having the kids and now have a really solid and important network of girlfriends - often a lifeline when things get a hectic. Louise my youngest recently started school which she’s loving. I’m really missing those playground days though. Those pre school years go so fast.
What’s your favourite Brighton memory (with or without child)? Hot days on the beach with a glass of wine and BBQ on the go! I couldn’t do that in Hertfordshire. The novelty of living by the sea hasn’t worn off yet.
Favourite place in Brighton and vicinity? That’s hard, there are so many. We have just discovered a new beach that I just love and have spent a lot of time recently I’m reluctant to share as it’s a well kept secret - but if you promise not to tell anyone ! Just beyond Carats Cafe in Shoreham basin and carry on to the end of the harbour wall. Time it right, go when the tide is low and there is an amazing sandy beach and fab rocks for the kids to climb. If you keep looking out to sea you could be any where in the world - it’s beautiful. However if you turn round the vista changes to the industrial power station - so eyes front or else you’ll shatter the illusion. It’s well worth a visit and a good bike ride.
