Review: Mum & Dad’s Snuggle Bundl of Joy
We’ve been testing the Snuggle Bundl. An innovative baby lifting blanket and a real Sussex success story.
The Snuggle Bundl is a blanket with a difference. Shaped like a hammock in order to scoop up the baby with two handles, so as not to disturb them while sleeping plus be gentle to post-natal mums, especially after a caesarian. And this is how the product was born, co-creator David Solomons’ wife had complications with birth plus he had back problems so they struggled to lift their newborn. He got together with neighbour Mike Edwards and their experience in industrial design went towards developing the product. It’s been a roller-coaster success so far this year, culminating in their winning of the southern region area’s Barclays Take One Small Step initiative for start-up business.
When we were offered one to try, we jumped at the chance. Even though our little one was 12 weeks old, and a bit of a big girl by all accounts (91st percentile all the way), she fit perfectly into the blanket. We live in a Victorian maisonette, the ‘house of steps’, so taking the kids down them in the buggy is a no-no. Every time we want to go out, I have to facilitate an operation of the Phil & Ted’s down the stairs, then load up changing bags and kids. I also have a few back grumbles left over from pregnancy and a 6 year old car crash. Snuggle Bundl has meant I can carry baby securely without straining my back. We then place her directly in the buggy, in the blanket and she is snug and ready for an autumnal outing. When I come back from my essential excursions with the kids, I lift the blanket straight indoors without waking her. Sometimes, she likes lying in it, like a snug pea in a pod, kicking happily.
I have to say this is genuinely a ‘how-did-we-manage-without-it?’ product. When I produced baby Boo in the blanket for her 12 week review, the health visitors at the clinic were all over me like a rash and very impressed with the concept. My mother thinks its the best baby product she’s seen in years and this is a woman who bought up two girls in the 70s when parenting was much simpler. Retailing at £39.99, the cost is comparable to a buggy cosy toes or sleeping sack. It washes in the machine on a 40 degrees cycle. With its multiple uses, you won’t regret the spend. Even our toddler has started using to transport her beloved comfort toy ‘bunny bunny’! And you can’t argue with a 3 year old’s judgement, can you?
Here’s our video demonstrating how happy and versatile she is in the Snuggle Bundl.
