Lives? Hanover, Brighton

Partner? Ian

Brighton born & bred? No, came here is a student then moved back 3 ½ years ago.

Occupation? Artist / Researcher / Mother

What is the best thing about being a parent in the city? Mainly the other parents are so great! I suppose that means, the community is great for families here. There are lots of other likeminded folk who have moved here to bring up their children. It is a creative place with an inclusive, liberal attitude, it values independence and tolerates alternative lifestyles. The parks are really great, there is easy access to the city and the countryside, and there is the sea. The sea is just great. Keeps the air clean.

What’s the most challenging thing about Brighton and being a parent? Finding work. Which may not be something to do with being a parent. Maybe the hills. The hills in Hanover have challenged my legs and stamina. However I have risen to this challenge and I now have thighs of steel.

What are your interests? Art and Food - mainly. But I also love yoga and car boot sales.

What’s your favourite Brighton memory? The first time I saw inside the Pavillion. Its just jaw-droppingly amazing. I never went there when I was a student, so it was quite recently that I went to have a look at it. And I just found it incredible, it was such a shock. I love to recommend it to visitors. You’ll never see anything like it anywhere, ever.

Favourite place in Brighton and vicinity? I love the North Laines. Its like a haven of lots of things I like. Flea markets and cafes which serve delicious food. My favourite shop is Pen to Paper. I buy a lot of pens and notebooks. I also love the Cafe at Queens Park because they do the best scones in the world. And I am a big scone fan.
