LOVE LOCAL: The Level Park
The Level isn’t our nearest park but like many, it is on our route to the shops and city centre. It has been a frequent stop on our family outings.
We can’t wait to see the first areas which are opening today. For month’s me and the kids have walked past, watching the building progress in anticipation. Lulu spotted the beautiful wooden beach huts in the play area and it is the first thing she remembered when I told her we are going there after nursery.
The restoration plans have not been popular with everyone. The sunken skate-park hasn’t convinced all the bordering residents that noise levels will be more acceptable and many more residents voiced their concern at the loss of green space in the city.
But despite these objections, on balance and in my opinion, the new space brings so much more value to the local community than before. For those living in the Lewes Road Triangle, Hanover and Elm Grove areas, the new plans promise a vibrant hub of activities for all ages on their doorstep. Plus with the Sussex Police Community Hub based from the Hornbeam Room in the East Pavilion, on a three month trial and a permanent park ranger in situ, the park can only get off to the best start ensuring people get the best use of the facilities.
The council have released these videos today with further updates on the restoration and the work which has been carried out.
