Love Local: Duke of York’s Picture House

The drive into Brighton on the London Road is highlighted by the pair of stripey legs kicking out of one of my favourite Brighton landmarks.

The Duke of York’s Picturehouse really does capture my heart. The building is beautiful, the staff always sound and I love the upstairs cafe too.

With the feel of an independent cinema this place is really a delight for any avid cinema goer. The cinema has not long been refurbished and is looking updated but still full of atmosphere.

With late night cinema to the Saturday Kids Club it really does open itself to a film should be accessible to everyone. Once my daughter hit 2 my husband bought Fizz her own membership (at just £1 for a year and then £1 per trip with attending adults paying a quid too). Here is why he thinks you should spend money there.

At the weekly kids club they have got it spot on when making sure those early years of cinema are magical and that is a reason why instead of a 3rd birthday party for Fizz we treated 10 of her friends to a yearly membership. When the children are older they can visit the projection room and fall even more in love with film (well I hope so).

From an adults point of view the lovers couches in the balcony area, the upstairs bar and the diversion from mainstream cinema really is a delight.

Thats why we love local and we love the Dukes.
