Learning to swim: Day Three
Today, Daddy took Little L to her Seriously Fun swimming and more progress was made with her confidence.
Finally I have nothing to report on the swimming class and what they practised today and that’s a good thing. Like all the other parents of the older children, we were able to leave her and wait in the changing area during the lesson. There were no tears, no leg clinging, just giggles and smiles. Little L found her confidence, sat waiting with her classmates for the session to begin and answered her name for the register. The report back from Friedel is she even jumped from the side in one of the exercises.
For us as parents it’s a relief. Mainly because we have the comfort she is enjoying the water and herself in class. But also because she is learning new things, especially listenting to a teacher and completing exercises. Although she goes to nursery, this is an unfamiliar environment, so I am impressed she has warmed to her teacher, Friedel. Going every day, rather than weekly, has really helped this. Her memory is retaining the process of arriving, changing and joining in with the exercises, her favourite being jumping and splashing, so she tells me!
Tomorrow it’s my turn to take her, so we will see if there is any clinging (as it’s ‘mama’) but knowing what she achieved today, I will stand as firm as possible. We’re now over halfway and I’m already planning the future and how we can prevent the swimming from lapsing again. We may see our toddler turn into a swimming water baby sooner than we think.
Claire, it’s such an important step for a child to swim. Both my husband and I learnt later in life although both of us enjoy it! We must organise time to take our daughter swimming as she is already 18 mths old! Good luck for yr next visit. Little L clearly loves it!
