Katrin Mothes, Barechic

Lives? Worthing

Age? 30

Kids? Noodle, due in February (that will not be his or her name J)

Partner? Engaged to Graphic Designer, Reuben

Brighton born & bred? No, originally from Germany. Came to Brighton over 12 years ago to improve my English. Well, I can truly say that I have done that! Just loved it here and so I stayed. We only really live in Worthing for practical reasons but my heart is with Brighton. Gorgeous place!

What’s the best thing about being a parent in the city? Well, with noodle only due in February I can’t comment on toddler groups and the like. But, being German I love the diversity and opportunity that Brighton offers. I know we will be able to mingle with other nationalities and of course Brighton itself is beautiful with so much to do as a young family.

Occupation? In the day I work for Studor Limited, a company in Hove who manufacture plumbing products and supply them worldwide. I look after their customers, organise trade shows and lots of other bits and pieces.

By night I look after our young online business Barechic. We launched it just over a year ago. Before that I had a dabble in being a party hostess for Ann Summers. I loved it but I soon realised that there was a demand for lingerie that is a bit more sophisticated and a lot of ladies didn’t want to associate themselves with the raunchy stigma. Having a graphic designer as a partner certainly helped a lot! And I can say that he certainly enjoyed designing our website and related materials! J We are still small but that helps us to really give a personal service that so many online shopping sites are missing. We wrap everything individually and listen carefully to our customers’ feedback helping us to hand-pick all the lingerie and nightwear we have for sale.

What are your interests? I love being outside. Beach or garden are my favourite places for chilling out. I love music, lots of different types as well. Once noodle is born I will get back into running as well. Wouldn’t go as far as running marathons but I do the odd race for Cancer Research and really enjoy the peace and freedom it gives your mind.

What’s your favourite Brighton memory (with or without child)? I love the smell of Brighton when you just come out of the station. It smells of all the different take-aways and that brings back many memories of when I arrived 12 years ago.

Favourite place in Brighton and vicinity? The lanes in the evenings. I love how it’s so buzzy and the atmosphere is kind of romantic. I really don’t go often enough!
