Family Bonding Over A BBQ Feast

0

Last weekend was Father’s Day so my social media was full of articles and photographs celebrating the occasion but throughout my adulthood I’ve never celebrated it as I haven’t had much respect for my father to be honest. Now that I have a child I’ve reconnected with my dad so that my son can get to know him and decide whether he wants him in his life so fathers day is something they may celebrate together in future.

Interestingly I came across Legal & General’s recent research into fathers and their earnings which included how the average father (excluding my ex of course ha ha) spend 47.5 hours a week on childcare and household chores.

Really?! This is quite impressive (even though women are still doing on average 65.5 hours I might add) because that’s nearly half of the childcare alongside any paid work they may do and it symbolises how parenting really is starting to become equal rather than left to us mums.

Sadly I’ve never met any of these fathers (if you know a single one send him my way guys) but the fact that this research has found this shows there are plenty of these lovely daddies out there doing their bit for their children!

If I or my own son had a dad that did as much as this I would most definitely have given him a lovely day last weekend, which would have included homemade cards, cake and a huge barbecue in the garden.

Now the weather is hotting up I’m seeing (and smelling) barbecues everywhere and I’m desperate to get one so I can have Dad and the rest of the family around for a feast of burgers, sausages, fish and lots of sweet potato fries…YUM!

We would of course then spend the rest of the afternoon playing football, cricket, rounders and running around like lunatics with the little ones to burn our lunches off, and if it’s really hot I would get the water pistols and water balloons out for a humongous water fight- dad heaven!

How would you show thanks to your dad?
