What To Expect: Booking In With A Midwife

0

Just before Christmas I had my first visit to the midwife. Although we live in another area of the city to our Dr’s allocated Midwife it was a huge runaround on my local health visitor/midwife centre (not returning calls and being dismissive to me - although they were nearest to me they argued that I would have to journey an hour away to another midwife) So again I have been allocated to Mouslecoomb.

They got me in the next day on Christmas Eve after I had been waiting a week for Whitehawk to come back to me.

On this visit, which was a pre booking in appointment as I was only 7 weeks, the midwife explained what had changed since my last birth and got together a lot of homework to send me off with ready for our next appointment at 10 weeks. At home I had 3 weeks to go over all the pregnancy paperwork and fill in the various forms needed.

All my forms were filled in and dates were also sent with the hospital (who hadn’t received my scan form although it had been sent twice, cue panic) but we also discussed my first birth experience (traumatic, allergic reactions) and the midwife sat, listened and was really reassuring too.

What questions did you take to your first midwife appointment? What area of the city are you in and what stage of pregnancy did you first get seen?
