The first thing we often crave after a Christmas drinking session is an oily fry-up. But do we really need the portion sizes served to us in greasy spoons? Cooking your own breakfast is a good way to control your calories intake. If you prepare your ingredients and store in the fridge before you go out, it will feel like less of a chore (or maybe some kind person will cook it for you!).
Try halving the amount you get in a traditional caff, e.g. 1 x rasher of bacon, 1 x sausage, 1 x poached egg, grill the tomatoes, onions, mushrooms to reduce the amount of fat used, 1 x tablespoon of beans and a small slice of bread with light spread. It’s still weighs in at around 450 calories but should hit the spot. To slash the calorie count further switch the meat for a veggie sausage, add steamed spinach or greens, use cooking spray if you must cook in the pan instead of grill.
Of course the simplest cure for a hangover is to drink plenty of water, before, during and after going out. Alcohol is a diuretic so removes fluids from the body. Read more on the NHS Choices website.
