I started this website out of fear. I was petrified by becoming a mum and losing my identity as Claire. For some reason I had formed the impression I would be cast into a separate section of society who are obsessed with their kids and never talk about other stuff again. Heaven knows what I’d been reading or watching to influence those fears.
After a few months with my newborn in Brighton, I was meeting the most amazing mothers making motherhood happen whilst retaining their identity from their careers, their passions and hobbies. These mums didn’t want to talk 24/7 children, we would bond over some of the challenges then go on to discuss politics, a work problem or the latest book we are reading. Or just be plain silly about nothing in particular.
Becoming a mum obviously did change me. And I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t a little wrestle with my identity with each new parenting challenge chucked my way. However, every week I meet another parent through nursery or school who helps me to make sense of it all.
BrightonMums.com was inspired by these parents. We will ALWAYS be about what parents enjoy, what we need and who we are.
All the team at BrightonMums.com wish mums everywhere a very Happy Mother’s Day. Celebrate the mother who inspired you.
