So You Don’t Have Kids? Now What!
Here at BrightonMums.com we’re all about the business of being a parent. But what if you don’t have kids? Or you never wanted them? Do you think society still marginalises those that don’t procreate?
Once upon a time, I sat my parents down and told them, ‘you know, I may never settle down and get married. I’m not I even want kids.’. It was humiliating being forced to announce this fact to stop the pitiful looks and the throw away comments about not having my life in order. Of course, life took a different turn for me after all and that’s a WHOLE other story. When I came across Gateway Women‘s workshops for NoMos – women who don’t have children. Fact is 1 in 5 women in the UK/ US are approaching their mid-forties without having children. Whether this is by choice or circumstance, dealing with society’s preconceived ideas and prejudices of women who are not mums can be tiresome and frustrating.
Gateway Women’s workshops aim to reaffirm NoMos place in the world with a mission to support, inspire and empower the childless-by-circumstance. Founder Jody Day states, ‘We are inspired by the example of the many women (and couples) who have chosen to live ‘childfree’ in having happy, meaningful lives and are supporting and cheering each other on as we find our way to a similar state of mind.’
And because BrightonMums.com are also tired of the divide between mums and NoMos, we wanted to feature more on these workshops, watch this space for an interview. In the meantime, we are sincerely flattered to have been given two places for their workshop on Sunday 28th October at the Anahata Centre in Brighton starting at 11am to give away for free!

Im all woman because I am just being me, deciding I dont want
children right now, maybe never but am fascinated by woman and motherhood and love the freedom we woman can have to choose and decide what we want ! Motherhod is a gift that we should all work at and should really want rather than make a mistake and juust deal as being a mother is the most important job in the world so should be a big decesion and never taken lighly nor be a ‘mistake’ !
I can change my mind as often as I want too lol
Three cheers for Brighton Mums! Its great to see this.
