Brighton born & bred?-
Kirsty: No. Moved over from Hailsham when I was 19. I fell in love with Brighton when I was doing my Fashion Design course and not forgetting the great clubbing scene. I meet my partner Alex who use to D.J back then and have been together for 18 wonderful years!
Hayley: No, am originally from surrey but moved to Brighton about 9 years ago and absolutely love it. Wouldn’t want to live anywhere else right now!
What’s the best thing about being a parent in the city? –
Kirsty: There is so much in the city you can do with the kids, from going to the parks or the beach or attending one the great clubs Brighton and Hove offer. One of Harry’s favourites is the Red Jelly Club. For my daughter she loves attending Rock School on Saturdays at Blatchington Mill School.
Hayley: Brighton has so much to offer parents, there are so many groups and activities for kids. I have met so many other mums from going to groups with my son and it is a really social and easy place to bring up children.
Kirsty: I used to Manage Miss Selfridge in Brighton before I had Harry and still work there part time. I also run LavenderBluephotos with my lovely neighbour and good friend Hayley Hay. We have been in business just over a year, and I have learnt so much already. After attending various college/private courses on photography we decided to set up LavenderBlue photos. Our style is very natural, we love taking photos of children in an environment where they are relaxed and happy. This could be at home, down the beach or park etc.
We have a range of packages from a family photo session, or a party package which has proved very popular. This is where we come to your party and capture the day for you so you don’t have to worry about taking photos and can enjoy the day. With all our packages you will receive a cd of all the edited images !!. All the details are on our website @ www.lavenderbluephotos.com.
Needless to say its been a very exciting year and what makes more enjoyable is working with my lovely neighbour.
Hayley: I originally trained as a scientist researching asthma and have done this for 12 years now and still find it fascinating! Since having my son I found I couldn’t stop photographing him and decided to improve my skills by embarking on a number of photography courses with my friend and next door neighbour Kirsty. We both really enjoyed the courses and started to get a lot of practice with our children and friend’s children. We got wonderful feedback from our friends and decided to set up Lavender Blue Photos. We both really enjoy working as photographers and love capturing natural shots of children playing. We work really well as a team and have a lot of fun together too and I think it really helps having two photographers with the children as one can entertain them while the other is snapping away. I love the creative side of photography and have met some lovely families along the way that we have photographed. It couldn’t be more different to science!!
What are your interests-
Kirsty: Photography, fashion, Interior design and Shopping !! Love meeting up with friends and my lovely neighbours for coffee mornings and nights out.
Hayley: Photography is obviously my passion and main interest, it not only is my job but a very enjoyable hobby too. I enjoy running (when I’m not pregnant) and hope to be getting back to it in not too long! I love spending quality time with my family and friends and love the summer days down by the beach!
What’s your favourite Brighton memory (with or without child)?
Kirsty: My most recent favourite Brighton memory is when we arranged a street party for the Royal wedding. The whole street pulled together and the day was a great success. To see everyone enjoying themselves and the kids of all ages having a great time was so lovely to see. Everyone got to know each other a little better that day and I’m so glad that I live on a street that has great neighbours who pull together.
Hayley: I have to agree with Kirsty on this one, the street party was a day to remember. It was so much fun and you could see that everyone was really enjoying themselves and there was a real sense of community feeling about the whole day. My son has not stopped talking about it and I think he would like to open the front door to a party on the street every day if he could!! We are very lucky to have such lovely neighbours.
Favourite place in Brighton and vicinity?
Kirsty: That’s a tough question !!! I would probably say the beach. I have so many good memories going down there with the kids and then queueing for ages to get an ice cream from Morocco’s. But then we all love eating out and Brighton/Hove have some fabulous restaurants .Oh and obviously the great shops!!
Hayley: Ah there are too many places to list! I think it is hard to not say the beach when you live in Brighton/hove! So many happy memories of days down by the sea. I love the local cafes for meeting my mum friends for coffee in the week and there are some great restaurants nearby.
