TOM’s Film Club: The Fifth Element (1997)

January 18 @ 8:00 pm - 10:05 pm

TOM’s Film Club: The Fifth Element (1997)
Date & Time: Thu 18 Jan, the screening will start promptly at 8pm (doors 7.15pm)

Celebrating its 20th anniversary last year, TOM’s Film Club is proud to present this screening of Luc Besson’s smart satirical and ultra-hip Sci-fi flick The Fifth Element (Le Cinquième Élément).

A bit like John McClain in Die Hard, Bruce Willis’ taxi driver / special forces major finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when a young woman (Milla Jovovich) falls into his cab from the sky, and she also happens to be the key in preventing the world’s future destruction. Set in the 23rd century, Besson started writing the script when he was sixteen years old and was thirty-eight when it finally came to fruition, and the results are one of the most stunning and innovative depictions of a future metropolis ever put to film. Plus, with an over the top villainous performance from Gary Oldman (following on from his previous over the top villainous performance in a Besson film, Léon), this is one of Besson’s most boisterous offerings, and fancy dressed is very much encouraged for this one.

“The Fifth Element has to be the most creative visualization since Tim Burton’s first Batman in 1989. On top of that, it’s a whole lot of fun.” Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle

Tickets: £6, £10 film saver (valid for two different TOM’s Films), £24 season pass (valid for all TOM’s Film Club screenings between Dec – Jan)
