Coming soon to Brighton: Diddi Dance

Diddi Dance, the franchise of funky pre-school dance classes for pre-school kids is coming to Brighton this September. We find out all about it from Laura Gardner, who is going to running the classes.

Diddi Dance was set up over 6 years ago by professional dancer Anne-Marie Wilkins after she realised a gap existed in the dancing arena that gave opportunities for children as young as 2 to join a structured and fun dancing class of varying styles. Using a variety of dancing games and exercises, including bells, hoops and dance ribbons to our own funky pop songs the classes not only improves the children’s rhythm and co-ordination but also social and gross motor skills. The classes are already very popular in areas where their established, with even Sara Cox tweeting ‘Thank you, thank you @diddidance for today’s first toddler dance session. Issac & I LOVED it! Reeeeaally recommend it! #notpaidtosaythat’.

Each half-term the classes look at different dancing styles from salsa to hip hop and disco. Although the classes are ideally suited for boys and girls between 2-4 years old they have had children as young as 16 months participate. ‘We a realise that some toddlers are more confident than others,’ Laura tells me, ‘that’s why we offer a free trial before you book.‘. The classes will also be available to book in blocks of 4 or 8 weeks instead of committing for a whole term.

Laura started dancing when she was 3 years old and it didn’t take long to become her passion. She went on to train professionally at Bird College gaining a BA (Hons) in Dance and Theatre Performance. She has performed on cruise ships for 3 years, travelling the world and doing a job she loved. When saw that Diddi Dance were expanding and they were looking for more teachers she applied. She’s been teaching in Blackheath for over a year and now plans on bringing classes to Brighton, Worthing and beyond. The company also offer children’s parties, a great idea for something a little different. ‘I love the idea of running a franchise and being part of an organisation. I can share my passion and enthusiasm of dance with young children and watch them develop’ Laura enthuses, ‘when you work with children, everyday is different so your day is never boring. It is rewarding to see them grow and build their confidence week after week.’.
