Brighton Half Marathon in the Bag!

A huge congratulations from everyone at BrightonMums.com to Heidi for completing the half marathon, against the odds after a recent injury! We’re so proud and here is her story….

Training for my half and full marathon came to a bit of a stand still after the Brooks 10k Race in November last year. I sprained both of my ankles and despite frequent visits to my osteopath, couldn’t get them strong enough to return to training, (carrying small but heavy boys and chasing them around the park also didn’t help).

After a couple of 3 mile runs a fortnight ago and a 7 mile run last Tuesday I decided that as I had a place anyway, I may as well start the Brighton Half Marathon, see how I get on.

It was a beautiful day on Sunday and the crowds were out in force to cheer everyone on which certainly helped. It was tough, (really, really tough) and I can honestly say I really didn’t enjoy most of it but I kept reminding myself of why I was doing it and that got me over the finish line.

I ache like crazy today. My hips, knees, legs, ankles, shoulders have all seized up and I’m super-glad the kids are at nursery as I certainly wouldn’t have been very entertaining or mobile but it was all worth it.

The final hurdle is the Brighton Marathon in April. The thought of running double the distance I ran yesterday seems completely incomprehensible but I am determined to do it.

I feel pretty pleased with myself today and reckon, with the amount of calories I must have burnt off yesterday, I can easily justify polishing off a whole bag of crème egg minis ☺

The Early Birth Association is a fantastic charity supporting and raising funds for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and the special care baby unit in Haywards Heath. Without these amazing facilities and the incredible staff that work there my son would not have survived.

  • Congratulations! Keep saying I will do it every year and never do. Maybe next year.
